Probably the worst long island ice tea I ever had, I had to go to the wait station to get the bartenders attention, while sitting at the bar.

I'm a picky meat person. I first walked in, and the nice gal sat us right away. The restaurant is very cozy, make you feel like you're in a cabin. My bison steak and the vege soup was delicious. This is definitely one of my first perfect steak of many to come. But Bullwinkle's is staying within my top 5. And of course, the meal was so great and the service was wonderful, I had to tip my gal 35. Yeah, thats how good it was

Best bar to eat and gamble in West Yellowstone! We tried this place after walking into Wild West just around the corner and deciding we didn't want to grab dinner at a meat market with music blasting so loud you couldn't think. Bullwinkle's is a cozy dive with layers of appeal. Nice long wooden bar. Lots of long bar height bench tables to sit at. Good selection of Keno/poker/reel game machines. Interesting outdoor trophy taxidermy. It was clean, warm, and had a good level of lighting. Best of all, not too loud. The food is amazing! Steak quesadilla had to die for tri tip in it. Onion rings are those thin shoe string style served with a homemade ranch. Decent wings and monstrous crispy/hearty nachos. Already decided I will eat here again tomorrow. A great place for bigger parties to all sit together, people can gamble near your table so everyone can do what they want. They do specialty shots and mixed drinks well here too. Bartender was waiting the tables and servicing the bar, but she was efficient. No glass was ever empty and our food came fast and hot. Some people seemed to be upset with this place, saying it was a tourist trap on other yelp reviews... Firstly, as far as the other choices in this town go, their are FAR WORSE touristy traps in this town. Secondly, in a tiny blink of a town that solely exists to support local tourism you should expect that's who the local watering holes are going to cater to. And third, we did run into several locals that sounded like they live at this bar... So it can't be your worst option. In summary, we found it to be just right for our big family group to visit and laugh, drink and gamble, and most of all EAT.

Good food from really good people. They were open until Eleven when most places stopped serving at Ten. My soup was good and my salmon was more than fine. The people, though, made my visit a great experience. Sara at the bar was outstanding and one of the other servers helped an older Russian couple in their own language. - I'm very comfortable/happy recommending Bullwinkle's for a good meal.

I had the Poutine here.....it was freaking DELICIOUS!!! Love the atmosphere in the bar, lounge, & restaurant!! I've always like this place, one of my favorites in West!!

Wow! Here's my first review.... The place looked promising when we first sat down. Then we ordered our meals and it was all down hill after that. The service sucked and the food was terrible, I thought we were on one of those shows on the Food Network where some comes in tries to save the business? The best part of dining there was leaving! :-(

The food and service was excellent! My Spaghetti was great and my husband loved his prime rib. The owner took time to come out and check on our group multiple times. The server had a great sense of humor and was on top of things especially for a large group.

Ew ew ew. I dont know if my family all ordered the worst dishes or what because everyone else seems to like this place. this Place was the last draw with us and we have sworn off tourist restaurants. So I ordered the nachos with everything. Not good. Cheese tasted cheap, chips were stale and just eha. Then my fiance ordered spaghetti. He bit in it and looked confused and said the meatballs taste like the frozen package kind and the sauce tasted Jarred or canned. He asked the waitress if it was homemade and she straight up lied to him and said it was. There was no way that spaghetti was homemade. The cups that held our water had to b sent back twice cuz of how visibly dirty and unwashed looking they were. The only good thing were the fries, and honey mustard if I remember right. Never again, only hole in the wall restaurants for now on, on our rd trips.

Don't let the looks of this "dive bar" deceive you -- the food is great! After a day in Yellowstone, we were looking for lunch and took a chance on Bullwinkle's. Walking in early May, we were the only tourists in the joint. We were met by the friendly bartender you promptly got our drinks and where my wife and I had the BEST buffalo burger of our entire vacation (and we had several).

Would rate this a negative 5 stars if this was possible. I went in with a party of 10, and the waitress split up our group. We asked to pull our tables together and she refused. Was upset when two other groups of 10 came in and were seated together without being split up, before we even got our food. We would be asked if we needed anything else and the waitress would be gone before we could answer her. The waitress kept getting our food mixed up and we would have to ask for a refill 4-5 times before she would get us one. When asked if we wanted "to go" boxes by the waitress, I asked for one and she never got me one. I ended up having to ask the bus boy when he asked if I was done. They have an 18% forced gratuity on groups of more than 6 and we were split up by the waitress that made us two groups smaller than the quota. When asked to speak to the manager, we got a lady who was supposedly the "restaurant manager" who wouldn't even listen to us and ended up walking away and chuckling while we were still trying to talk to her. We ended up sitting there in complete bewilderment on if she was coming back or not. The second manager "bar manager", who we got pawned off on, was barely more polite than the waitress and "restaurant manager" combined. We tried to explain, again, what had happened and she said "If you had told me from the beginning that the service was bad...." and she let her sentence drift. I very calmly told her exactly what happened in full detail with the waitress and the "restaurant manager" she decided to argue with me and then said "I will take care of it". She ended up taking $1 off over a $200 ticket and left the gratuity at 18%. The only polite people at this place was the bus boy who gave me my "to go" box and the bar patron who gave us directions on how to get to the restaurant part of the establishment. We had the worst customer service I have ever seen in my entire 12 years of being in the customer service business. Everywhere I have worked if anyone was that rude to a customer, they would be fired on the spot along with at least a dozen apologies from the manager and to make amends on behalf of the establishment. All we wanted was to change the gratuity because of our inhospitable service.

I wanted to wait a bit before I posted a review. We left with a bad taste in our mouth, literally and figuratively. I ordered the special salmon. My wife ordered the prime rib. I eat a lot of salmon. This was dry, flavorless and had the look of farmed even though I was assured it was wild caught. the waiter recommended the Prime Rib. He stated he "was authorized to release" the prime rib. In the Montana, Wyoming area, the very last thing I would have expected was a flavorless cut of Prime Rib. She could not eat it. When I complained about my salmon, it was replaced with a chicken rib combo. That was edible. Not good but edible. The waiter did not even offer to replace my wife's meal. Given the other reviews, if you care about the service and quality of your food, I recommend that you give Bullwinkle's a pass. As a side note,

Food good, service bad. Owner was at the next table and completely oblivious to the understaffing. Only go if less than half occupied. There are other restaurants in town.

Tourist trap - avoid if possible. Poor quality, greatly overpriced food. Filet mignon was some mystery meat. The trout and lamb were overcooked. All the entries we got lacked flavor. For $120 for 3 people we grew accustomed to expect much, much more.

Taking my first bus trip all the way to Yellowstone from California, this place was suggested by our tour guide. He wanted to reserve the whole crew a sitting in the place but we had to wait till 9:30 at night for it.. And being on a full Asian tour bus, they, of course didn't want to wait. SO instead of going to the closest eatery near our hotel (KFC or other fast foods), I demanded to walk straight to this place. It was a 2-3 block walk as well. So it was myself, My family and the bus driver, who also didn't want to eat another round of fast food--three times a week already. We went in and the place was pretty pack but we were in first with no line--5 minutes wait. The bus driver went to the bar so he was, of course, seated faster. My parents and my cousin's parents order the Idaho Rainbow Trout. I was daring and got the Buffalo Burger--I think I ate too fast so I forgot how it tasted like..but it was meaty. My cousin got the Ruben--very nice looking sandwich The atmosphere was nice with crowds of people--I may be guessing like us, all tourist?. The Laker's game (whoo hoo) was on these ancient big o' televisions stuck on the wall, but that kept us entertained The slight downfall was that when wanting to order some of the specials--meatloaf. They had no more and when trying to include some a side like mash potatoes--they ran out too Over all, this place is pretty decent. Nice to go and eat at when visiting Yellowstone. :)

I'm going to review both postings for Bullwinkle's to make sure to make my point. DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT!!!! You are better off going to the grocery store for a pack of crackers! This was probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We had a party of 10. We were not told they could not split checks until it came time to pay. When asked, they said that technically they could split checks, but it was "difficult" for them if the parties had more than 6, so they didn't do it. I understand if you are busy, but they were not. The other table next to us had their ticket split for all 6 individuals, but they could not do it for us for 5 couples. One of the waitress' explanation was "I don't make the rules, I just inform them." Huh? One of our party ordered the fried chicken salad. When it came out, there was no chicken on it, but she didn't notice right away because it was all mixed together, and we were all talking. About five minutes in when she noticed the chicken was missing and told our server, he said "I came by and checked on you three times", like it was her fault. He then stated that he could neither discount the price nor could he take the salad off, because the manager was not there, and no one else had the ability to make changes. Would she like a dessert instead? I'm sorry, but for a $13.95 fried chicken salad with no chicken, a slice of pie does not make up for it. She refused. Finally, he came back and said he got the manager on the phone and she walked them through how to take it off the check. Could we please come back and talk to the manager to tell her how tough it is on the servers when this kind of issue arises. When we received our check, as we spent 10 plus minutes trying to split it (luckily everyone had cash), we realized that instead of charging $.99 for cheese on a burger like the menu says, we were charged $1.50. When I told the server, he said, "I'll write that down." Alot of good that does me!!! They also charged $1.00 for a loaded baked potato, which was not stated anywhere on the menu. All in all, the food was bad for most of our party, and the HORRIBLE customer service made it even worse. Although Bullwinkle's was recommended by our hotel, we made sure to inform the front desk to NEVER recommend this place to anyone else. Only wish we had read the reviews before we went....

Avoid. Standard displeasing tourist food. Staff was both cordial and very casual. Our waiter said the burgers were not special and that he'd recommend something else. We ordered the "Tuesday Special" Chicken Parmesan. Noodles were overdone, chicken was dry and lacking any seasoning, melted cheese over top added no flavor. We didn't expect much from a tourist town in terms of food and Bullwinkle's was no exception. // Consider the Mexican food school bus restaurant just south instead (cheaper , much better tasting).

Decent food, warm in the winter, good beers, homey atmosphere, just a little on the expensive side for what you get. But then again so is everything in West Yellowstone. I can see this place getting pretty busy during peak season.

We went here on our way into Yellowstone NP. It was highly rated in Frommer and we were totally dissapointed. The food was poor, the wait and service very long and tiring. The staff was extremely rude. I rarely go out of my way to write a negative review but this was one of the worst dining experiences of my life.

The food is very good but the wait for a table is ridiculous! Going to the bar to kill time is a wasted pursuit. I'm a ridiculously good tipper but still waited way too long to get a few pints to pass the time until my table was ready. Told 20-25 minutes for a party of five waited at least an hour. Local brews were excellent drank 3 pints while waiting. The service (once seated) was excellent and the portions hearty. Would have ranked higher but could not get over the inital wait despite it not being busy on a Wed night.

I wasn't really disappointed with Bullwinkles but I wasn't super impressed either. Biggest highlight was the availability of fresh local game. My wife had the elk paillard (which is basically a pounded fillet) with mushroom sauce, and I had the corn flour dusted and pan fried trout. Both were pretty good. The trout was probably a little bit better... Could have been a bit crispier though. Actually the green rice that went with it was really good. Our entrees came with the salad bar. Kind of felt like I was traveling back in time to a salad bar from the 80's... Complete with bak-o-bits. Kids had grilled cheese which were pretty good for kids fare. Overall, nothing special but you can do much worse in West Yellowstone.

Really fun place. Had the pleasure of getting to Yellowstone three years in a row, and this place has become a standard stop - like Old Faithful. Especially like the Moose Drool I wish more places in WY could be like Bullwinkle's.

Fairly large restaurant and bar that probably gets really busy during the high season. I found the service to be fine and was seated right away but this was an off weekend I suspect! Nice selection of basic dinners centered around fish (trout, pike) and steaks. I had a very tasty pan fried pike served with white rice and nondescript mixed vegetables. Plenty of food and at $20 I felt it was a good value. Most of the steaks were in the $30 range. Pitchers of beer available along with full bar. Did not look at the wine selections. Friendly basic service.

Decent food at a moderate price. Nothing spectacular, but clean place. Plenty of character. We greatly appreciated the good service and kind hospitality as we arrived 15 minutes before closing on a Sunday night after a LONG drive and we were thankful for our food and their kindness. 5 for that! Spaghetti and meatballs was a generous portion, but the meatballs were what you'd expect to buy at a warehouse store. 2.5 to 3 for that. Broasted chicken and ribs were very good and would have received 4 stars. Salad bar was small, but fresh and well kept. My son's quesadilla was good. Just passing through town and not sure of other options, but got us through a LONG day.

Horrible experience! Always interesting when the restaurant owner lies to you --- no you did not ask if everything was OK and yes I did hear you drop the F bomb when you were at the register. Comping a meal because you failed to tell us you were out of a dish is pretty common, especially when you fail to tell the customer until 10 minutes after everyone else has their food. Blaming and humiliating the waiter was a nice touch. Jacky (nurse Ratched), time to find a new gig.

Good break from the usual hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken strips. Decent food. Drinks are very weak. Service nice but slow but in-line with other service in Yellowstone. Good atmosphere and vibe. Prices are a little high, but certainly worth a try if you need a break from the usual.

This was a nice restaurant to stop in on after an afternoon at Yellowstone. It's in the town right outside the park's West entrance. Wife was looking for seafood, and after walking around the little town, this was the only place we found with it (others had the standard fare of pizza, burgers, ribs, pasta, etc). She had the Canadian walleye dinner which was fine and I had a decent angus burger. They had a few craft beers but I did not try any on this night. They also had a neat little model train running above the dining room. A nice option for this town. Service was friendly and fairly quick.

The Prime Rib was excellent. We ordered it medium and it was cooked perfectly. Very well seasoned. Meat was so tender it melted in your mouth. Huckleberry margarita yummy, not too sweet!!!

Can you go less than a star? Went in with my family after a day at Yellowstone. We decided just to share some appetizers and my mom got the salad bar. After About 45 minutes and no food, the baby was getting fussy and near bye customers were staring and obviously bothered. We asked to cancel the order since it was taking too long and for the check to pay for the sodas and salad bar. As we were getting our money sorted we suddenly hear a lady screaming at us! The OWNER came out and yelled at us that we had 12 people and how dare we leave because of course 12 orders will take 45 min! She threatened to call the cops unless we waited for our food! First off, no food order should "naturally" run 45 min. Secondly, she obviously had lost our food ticket or she would have known we were in fact a party of 7 (and baby) and we only ordered 2 orders of wings, a chicken salad, some fries, and a quesadilla. After We told her she was crazy to think we'd really stay after being screamed at, we all got up and headed for the door as she then proceeded to call the cops!! What she told them I'll never know! My dad had thrown down $30 on the table for the waitress which was way more than the salad bar and few sodas cost! The other food was never seen by us! As we drove by shortly after on our way out of town, sure enough, saw a cop parked out front of the restaurant! Way to waste taxpayers dollars on top of making a spectacle of your establishment!!!

The saloon part is great!! You can order from the restaurant menu and although service might be a little slow, heck, you're in a bar!!! Kick back and enjoy! The food was great; we had the broasted chicken and a grilled chicken sandwich. Both were delicious!! The mashed potatoes and vegetables served with the chicken were well cooked and well seasoned. They also have about 20 slot machines that paid off!!

  • Melody P.

Super expensive for what you get. Mediocre food with pretty uneventful fare. We had the meatloaf, steak, trout, chicken fried steak and special. The service was great. There was just not a "special" taste to anything. The price of a nice restaurant and the quality of a diner

Arrived late and was busy ordered drinks in the bar and were seated promptly. We like bloody marys and consider ourselves somewhat of a gourmand on them. This is the worst Mary ever!!! When we went 2 place our order...no soup, no daily special, no chicken fried steak all which we wanted 2 order. Ordered Brock chicken, dry, Ruben, soggy. Waitress was pleasant but never checked on us afterward.

A very ordinary diner with very ordinary food, its saving grace is the somewhat nice decor. We just wanted a quick bite to eat at 3:00 pm -- we were the only customers there, although there are more patrons during regular meal times I had a baked potato with cheese and vegetables. It came sizzling hot, and they used real cheddar instead of cheese sauce, so they get points for that. However it meant the potato was pretty dry--I wound up adding a couple pats of butter to moisten it. The veggies included mushrooms, zucchini, and tomatoes. I was a little surprised that you don't get a choice to add any NORMAL baked potato toppings (bacon, chives, sour cream)--those were sorely missed. There were other toppings you could get, like mushroom ragu, spicy chorizo, and shrimp & scallop, but none included the regular toppings. So whatever points they got for using regular cheese, was offset by that. We also ordered chicken strips--but we wanted to swap out the fries it came with, with onion rings. No can do, the waitress tells us. It then turned into a scene from that movie with Jack Nicholson when he tries to talk the waitress into serving a kind of sandwich they have all the ingredients for, but don't offer it on the menu. How hard would it have been to provide a half order onion rings instead of the fries, and just charge us a couple extra bucks? Instead, you wanna know what we had to do? We had to order the "chicken strips with fries" as well as a full appetizer order of onion rings, then we told the server to hold the fries. Guess what? They charged us full price for both, essentially turning strips and rings into an overpriced $20 lunch entree with a gargantuan mountain of onion strings we couldn't finish. What a waste of food, and a waste of money. Not planning on going back. This is a small town but there are plenty of other better places. PS: later when we were walking down the street, we saw one of the waitresses finishing her lunch--at DAIRY QUEEN. Never a good sign when your own crew doesn't eat the food.

Food very good. I had Prime Rib and my wife had their Trout. My wife is still talking about how that was the best prepared trout she has had. Even better than when I BBQ fresh caught trout at home. My prime rib was cooked perfect to a medium rare. Vegetables were cooked just right. We were so impressed with our meals we ate there 3 nights later. I took away 1 star because service good but not excellent.

It was a rainy and cold Sunday afternoon when we stopped in for a drink at the bar. We were warmly greeted when we came in by the hostess who smiled and welcomed us in. The bartender was so sweet and friendly, we could have talked to her for hours! While we didn't have any of their food, the drinks and service were excellent. Great spot with friendly local people!

Buffalo burger is a safe bet at this diner-ish restaurant. Buffalo meatloaf was good but smoky. Moose Drowl on draft and salad is provided with most meals! The train over head was quite entertaining.

Lousy service, horrible food pretty much sums it up. A waste of a culinary dining experience! We have come to expect lousy food in Montana and Wyoming, but this was even below standards. Example ..... A bruschetta with prosciutto tomato, beans, and red onion. Ok we will take a chance. This one missed the mark, a 1" thick piece of soggy Texas toast with poor quality prosciutto completely covered in melted cheddar cheese. Patty melt maybe, bruschetta no. $100 for 2 adults and 2 kids for lousy food.....think not, the KFC across the street would have been.a better option. The fish was as dry as a desert. The prime rib special my kids shared, and was not too bad, the potato and vegetable were lousy. The wife's chicken fried steak was cold, along with the cold mashed potatoes and horrible cole slaw.

Guys - this place is a small restaurant in a small town. Go with items off the menu that sound like a diner would do well! i had the roast beef plate and the gravy was the most delicious thing I've tasted since I was a kid washing dishes at a place much like this. Thick, salty and intoxicating. The meat was tender and plentiful! My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak with sausage gravy and that was delicious as well. Having not eaten during a 10 hour hike I could probably have eaten my arm, but I still knew better than to order salmon. Come on guys. It's not a tourist trap, it's a family restaurant in a small town. If you want fine dining hit up a chain restaurant or continue on to Bozeman. If you're looking for something hearty and homey, come to Bullwinkle's! It was exactly what I had wanted!

Stopped at Bullwinkle's on our bike trip across the country and had a great meal. Great ambiance, good service, and the food was fresh and very tasty. I had the Idaho Rainbow Trout, it was quite good. We finished our meal with the local Huckleberry Cheescake.

My family and I really enjoyed this friendly restaurant with a casual atmosphere. Our server had a great personality and was super attentive even while managing several tables. The menu has something for everyone. We had the BBQ ribs, Walleye sandwich and a grilled chicken salad and all were delicious.
